As a San Diego Authorized Notary Public, I am commissioned by the County of San Diego to issue the Confidential Marriage License, which can be used to be legally married anywhere in the State of California!

California is one of the few states that allows an Authorized Notary Public to issue the Confidential Marriage License! The ability of the Authorized Notary to issue a Confidential Marriage License offers convenient, extended services to all couples wishing to get married in California. We proudly offer same-sex marriages and LGBTQ+ are always welcome!

 

There are certain rules and procedures that accompany this kind of marriage certificate, and there are some very unique benefits, as well.

 

AVOID THE LINES!

No long lines, travel time or inconvenient appointment times! The San Diego County Clerk's office requires both parties to appear together to get a marriage license, but appointment times can be limited and the lines can be long. Our Instant Marriage Service in San Diego streamlines the process by providing both the California marriage license and a non-denominational Officiant to perform the wedding ceremony.

 

NO TRAVEL OR TRAFFIC

I will come to you so you don't have to deal with traffic, travel time or parking. Who needs to travel to Las Vegas to elope when you can reserve a same day wedding in America's Finest City!

NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

There is no residency requirement for the Confidential Marriage License, so you don't have to live in San Diego County or be a U.S. citizen in order to obtain a California marriage license.

NO WITNESS REQUIREMENT

Witnesses are not required for the Confidential Marriage License. I can issue the marriage license for an elopement or last minute ceremony with just the two of you and the Minister, or a larger, traditional affair at a formal venue with family and friends.

NO WAITING PERIOD

There is no waiting period for the marriage license in the State of California. I can issue the license and you'll be legally married the same day!

NO BLOOD TEST

A blood test is not required for a marriage license in the State of California.

REQUIREMENTS FOR A CONFIDENTIAL MARRIAGE LICENSE
 

• Both parties must be at least 18 years old to apply for a Confidential Marriage License. (Minors may NOT purchase a confidential marriage license.)
   

• The couple must swear under oath that they have been living together as spouses at the time they apply for the marriage license, and must sign an affidavit on the license attesting to those facts. (We will not ask for proof and there is no time requirement as to how long the couple has lived together)
   

• You are not required to get married San Diego County where you purchased the confidential marriage license; however, you must be married in California, not another state. After the ceremony, the license must be filed in the county where it was purchased.
   

• No witnesses are required to be at the ceremony AND no witnesses are required to sign the marriage license.

PREPARE FOR YOUR MARRIAGE LICENSE APPOINTMENT

 

1. Download and fill out the Confidential Marriage License Application
 

2. Present valid, current and non-expired ID. The names on your Confidential Marriage License Application MUST MATCH YOUR ID EXACTLY!

 

3. If you have been divorced in the last 2 years, you must provide proof of dissolution / divorce decree.

4. You must state under penalty of perjury, that you are living together as spouses. If you do not live together, you will need to apply for a Public License by making an appointment with the San Diego County Clerks office.

5. Your Mother & Father's first, middle and last names (including Mother's maiden name) is required on the application, and you will need to know their names at birth / the name on their birth certificate, so make sure you have this info before you fill out the application.

MARRIAGE LICENSE & CEREMONY FEES

• Confidential Marriage License $144

• (2) Notarizations (license) $30

• (1) Notarization (request form) $15

• Appointment / Ceremony Fee (determined by date, time & location)

I would be honored to serve as your Wedding Officiant and have been a licensed, ordained minister since 2005! You can opt to have me perform your marriage ceremony and enjoy a $50 discount on the appointment fee OR I can issue the license for you to use with your own Officiant.

Identification Requirements

The State of California requires that you present one piece of current government-issued photo I.D. such as a State issued Driver's License, State Identification card, Military Service or Military Dependent Identification card, Inmate ID Card, Naturalization Certificate, Passport, Alien Registration card (Form 1551), Identification card issued by the U.S Government or Identification card issued by another Country.​

Terms of the Confidential Marriage License

The marriage license is a confidential record and is registered at the County Clerk’s Office in the county where it was purchased. Only the couple may purchase copies of the marriage license and must present valid picture identification together with the required fee to the County Clerk in order to do so.  Persons other than the married couple requesting copies of a confidential marriage license may only do so by presenting a court order to the County Clerk in the county where the license is registered.
